9 Amazing Hair Care Products That Are Worth The Hype

Are you searching for amazing hair care products that are worth the hype? Well, you’ve come to the right place! In this post, I will be breaking down some hair products you see on your Instagram feed and wonder if they’re any good.

Whether it be from Sephora or from the drugstore, there are so many products that go viral every day. Some super expensive, some reasonably priced. But regardless, which ones are worth trying?

As someone who used to be a stylist, hair care products are very close to my heart. Not only that, but I am extremely picky with what I consider to be a “great” product. This list will consist of the products I consider life changing. The ones that I will repurchase over and over again not matter the price range.

As a bonus, I will include a list of a few products I consider “overhyped” and I will give you reasons why I don’t think you should spend your hard earned money on them.

So let’s talk hair! The good, the bad and everything in between!

Best Hair Care Products

1. K18 Biomimetic Hairscience

Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask

K18 is a fairly new brand to launch in Sephora and it has quickly become very popular with their customers. This product specifically caught my eye because it claimed to repair damaged hair in just 4 minutes. I was instantly intrigued because my hair colourist recently left the bleach in my hair a little too long, making it feel very dry and damaged.

First, it is to be noted that this product, isn’t cheap. For the small bottle (and I mean small, 0.5 fl. oz) it is 36 Canadian dollars. And I would say for someone with medium to long hair, this would be good for approximately 8 applications. The large bottle is a lot bigger (1.7 fl. oz) and is $101.50 Canadian.

I purchased the small one only because I wanted to try out the product first to actually see if it does what it says it’s supposed to do. Then if I would like it, I’d invest in the bigger size.

The instructions say after shampooing your hair, you should NOT use conditioner. Once out of the shower, towel dry your hair very well without combing through it. The brand emphasizes that a little of this product goes a long way, so about a dime size in your palm should enough. But if you need a little more for longer hair, that’s fine. Slather the product in your hands and apply to your hair from tips to root.

At this point, you need to leave the product in your hair for 4 minutes and once the time is up, you may comb through your hair. Then go ahead with your usual hair care routine whether it’s mouse or hair serum. Style your hair as usual!

The Results?

I followed these exact instructions for 6 consecutive washes then after that you can use it every 2nd-3rd wash.

After using this product a few times I did notice a big difference in my hair. It was softer and it didn’t feel as dry. I really like the fact that after using the treatment every wash, I now only have to use it every 2nd or 3rd wash. I have since purchased the larger size and will continue using this product, as I have never tried anything like this before.

2. Ouai

Hair Oil

In general, there is not much to say about a hair oil. I feel as though this is a personal choice on what kind of consistency you like in a hair oil. It also depends on your hair type. If you have thicker hair, you would probably like something a little thicker. I personally have straight hair and like I mentioned before, it is bleached so sometimes I deal with dry ends.

This hair oil is the perfect consistency. Not too thick and not too thin. A little goes a long way and you can apply this on wet or dry hair. My hair never looks greasy after using it. The best part is that it is not ridiculously priced. Although this is considered a higher end brand, in my opinion is priced fairly at $40.50 for the larger bottle.

3. Sun Bum

Heat Protector

This heat protector is one of those products that I have repurchased over and over. If I’m being honest, the first time I picked it up, it was because I just really liked the bottle. I loved how the formula separated and that you had to shake it to combine the product. But the more I used it, the more it became a staple in my hair care routine.

If you are like me and use heat on your hair regularly, then you definitely need a heat protector in your life. I like this one in particular because for the price point, I love how it helps protect my hair, I love how it smells and I really like how it detangles my hair.

You can find this amazing and affordable product at target or amazon for less than 20$! Worth every penny.

4. Fable and Mane

HoliRoots Hair Oil

I kept seeing everyone on my “For You” page raving about this hair oil. I eventually caved and made the purchase with the intention of returning it if it didn’t live up to the hype. It definitely did live up to the hype because I am now on my third bottle. After using this hair oil, my hair looks extra shiny and soft for days. The brand claims that this product helps with promoting hair growth and overall hair health.

The way you use this type of hair oil is a lot different from the last one I talked about in this post. This hair oil is more of a treatment. This should be applied on your roots on dry hair with the amount you desire. Once you massage it in your roots you can leave it in for at least 5 minutes but for best results, overnight. I personally keep it in my hair overnight. I massage the oil in my roots, wear a hair bonnet overnight and wash my hair in the morning.

I promise you, after you try this product, you will never go back. It will immediately become a huge part of your hair care routine. The only negative I can possibly say about this product is the price point. It costs $51.50 for a 1.8 fl oz so for me, doesn’t last very long. With that being said, the product is so good that I keep purchasing it regardless of the price point.

5. Kérastase

8H Magic Night Serum

I received this product as a deluxe sample with one of my purchases at Sephora and was super excited because I had heard only great things from the brand Kérastase. I must admit that I didn’t read the full directions on how to use this product, I just read hair serum and figured it went in wet hair. Of course it did nothing and I thought that this product just wasn’t any good.

After watching a few TikTok’s on how this serum actually works, I realized I was doing it wrong and tried again. This time the results were incredible.

You must apply this serum right before bedtime on dry hair. That’s it! Sounds so simple but the results are amazing. The next day you wake up with the softest hair you have ever seen. This product costs a whopping 80$ a bottle. And guess what, I will repurchase forever. A life changing hair care product!

6. Kristen Ess

Dry Shampoo Powder

Recently, I have been in search for a great dry shampoo. There are actually a few brands that I like, for example the brand Batiste or Amika. And although they work well, they leave scalp feeling very itchy and dry. I also read that aerosol dry shampoos are not good for you, so I was really searching for more of a powder.

I recently found a dry shampoo at Target and it caught my eye because of the different packaging. I aways used dry shampoos that almost worked like hairspray. This bottle looked a little different. It was a see through container and you can see that the product was powder. I purchased it and when I tried it, it worked well but the best part was that hours later, my scalp did not feel itchy and my hair didn’t feel too dry.

I really enjoy this dry shampoo and the price is really on point at just $11.99.

7. Lush Super Milk

Conditioning Hair Primer

I am sure you have seen this product on TikTok at some point. It went so viral that it was out of stock in every Lush store. When I finally purchased it, I liked it, but not for what it is supposed to do.

The name of the product is Conditioning Hair Primer but when I used it for what it was intended for, it just made my hair super greasy. To the point that I had to re-wash it.

It stayed in my shelf for a couple of months until one day I decided to give it another chance. I tried it again but this time, I spayed a couple of pumps in my palm and applied it to dry hair.

My hair did feel a little softer but that is not what impressed me. The smell is what makes this one of my favourite hair care products. Anywhere I go, I get complimented on my smell. Everyone thinks that it is my perfume but really, it’s this product.

8. Mielle

Rosemary Mint Scalp & Strengthening Oil

Yes, another hair oil. But hear me out! This one’s different.

This Mielle Rosemary Mint Scalp treatment is an inexpensive product that is amazing. It can be used daily if desired and its great for split ends and in general promotes healthy hair and scalp. It is infused with Biotin so it encourages hair growth.

Massage it in your scalp and is great if left overnight. Wash it in the morning to see great results. Keep using this product to see hair growth results. Best part is the price. You can find this at Target for just $9.99. If you’re looking for this product in Canada, good news is that it is available on Amazon!

9. Joico

Defy Damage Protective Mask

This hair treatment was something I originally purchased from my hairdresser because she highly recommended it after bleaching my hair. Later on I found out that you can purchase it on Amazon for a much better price.

This treatment will not “fix” your hair. I did not find that it repairs my hair but I do find that it temporarily makes it feel super soft and healthy. I use this treatment right after I dye or bleach my hair for about a week or so. It helps me comb through it and in general just makes me feel like my hair has a protective coat over it. The smell is probably the best part. After using this product my hair smells like I just came out of the hair salon.

Products that are NOT Worth the hype

I don’t like to talk badly about products. Usually when I don’t like a product or it didn’t meet my standards, I just don’t talk about it at all. But since we are talking about products that are worth your money, I feel like I should mention the ones I feel are not.

To be clear, I don’t hate these hair products. I actually like some of them. I just feel like for the price, there is better out there.

  • Olaplex N6 – This is not a bad leave in treatment. I just feel that for the price there are better products out there. I personally like the K18 a lot better
  • Ouai Scalp Serum – This did absolutely nothing for my hair. I had high hopes for this product because I do really love this brand and the packaging is just so aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me
  • The Inky List Peptide Volumizing Hair Treatment – Another product I had high hopes for because I love this brand but after using this on a regular basis, I noticed no difference in my hair.
  • Gisou Hair Oil – The packaging is just the cutest. Probably my favourite package of any hair care brand. But this hair oil is just a little too rich for me and made my hair look greasy after I used it on dry hair. And the price is a little too steep for me for the size if the bottle.

I hope my opinions about my favourite hair products inspired your next hair care purchase.
